April 14 Okavango back to Maun

We  had breakfast at 6:30 AM and the poler helped take the tents down. I was back with Barak poling us back to the main poling station. It was a good journey and I didn't tire of the makoro experience. The Botswana guys who were our guides were really pleasant folk, and we all had a good time. The luggage was put onto the safari truck but before we drove back to Maun, we went on a tour of a local Botswana village. There are several villages in the area. Huts are the traditional thatched roof with poles for walls, some with mud too. We did not go inside but noticed solar heating for their cell phones! Most of the garbage was put into containers to be removed, but we noticed a hole in the ground, and that was bad for the environment. Some kids came to visit, and it was a pleasant time with our guides. Soon we were back at the poling station, driving back to Maun. On arrival, we pitched out tents, showered, had lunch at the hotel, and organized camping equipment. I have spent a lot of time tonight getting caught up with this blog. It takes quite a time to do, and time to process the pics and upload.

At 2:30 pm we left to draw money, drove to the airport and boarded a small plane for an aerial view of the delta . It was very impressive. At the beginning I notice huge fires in places, but not sure what they were for. The delta by air was impressive, and we could see game below. Sometimes I missed shots but I was pleased to see it. In a month's time the whole area will be flooded. You can see in the pics that many areas are grassed over because they are flooded every year. The entire area will be different in May.
On our return we spent time chatting, and I did a lot of this blogging. Supper was a buffet provided by Intrepid. And now it is time for bed.....the others are all tucked into their camp beds, even though the floor is hard with a camping mattress. Tomorrow we move out of Maun and away from the delta area but the trip to Okavango was really worth it.
