I get up with the sun, and was ready 7 AM. I wandered around the garden and took lots of pics, as it is so interesting . This is one of the few white farms that was not seized. Helen brought me tea and rusks as I sat upstairs blogging. Today is Don’s 76th birthday, so we all wished him a happy day.It was interesting to wander around the property. Lance Richards from New Zealand arrived to talk with Helen about her day old chicken operation. Anthony had been out attending to some farming need. We had a huge breakfast of eggs, bacon, fried bringal, toast and mango juice. It was good to taste the home made chutney and home made jams. There is no internet here so I work offline!!

Soon after, Don and I took off to Kyle Game Park, which is just down the road. We paid, and drove around. I was surprised to see the water levels 20% of capacity, but we saw quite a lot of game. There are no lions or elephant here, but 22 rhino, and there is a big effort to raise money to save them from poachers. Poaching is not a big problem here, but they still need a team to patrol regularly. Unfortunately we didn’t see any rhino because you are more likely to see them early in the morning or after 4 pm. It was a pleasant day, with lovely scenery. We saw giraffe ( close), wildebeest, also close by, impala bounding along, many warthog. The highlight for me was seeing the ostrich at close range. Although I saw them in captivity in South Africa it was good to see a big black male with two smaller light brown females. We went to the lodges to check them out. For $50 you get quite a nice thatched unit for three. It is serviced, and there is a kitchen with all amenities. The maid, Chipo, took us onto the solid rock of the hill ( kopje) and knocked the rocky ground with a rock. The ground rock rang: it was hollow underneath, or there was a hollow bubble or mini hole under that part of the kopje!!The view from the campsite/lodges was very pleasant looking down at Lake Kyle. At the campsite they have an enclosure with at least 3 crocodiles. On our way home we stopped off at Hippo Creek Lodges. It was a great day, and we got back to Beza at 3:30 PM.
