I left early this morning by taxi with Yesudass ( Christian guy, go figure) and we got to Coimbatore via the short route, really country roads. Of course I had no idea because all the road signs, ( if there were signs ) were in Tamil. Yesudass had no problems knowing where to go. Monkeys along the way as we left the Nilgiris mountains. The heat settled in Coimbatore, as we were now on the hot plains. The plane only took and hour and a half to Chennai. I did not see much of the flood devastation because we only saw the airport. I got two taxi quotes, the first astronomical, and the second reasonable but way more than the fare with Yesudass. The journey was hot, and I did not do well with the heat. Then the drive got lost in Puducherry. I arrived really hot and bothered! The Sea side Guest House is part of the Sri Aurobindo/The Mother spiritual icons here. Everyone has pictures of them for inspiration and spiritual guidance. Staff and service are great. All vegetarian, and strict rules, 11:15 PM curfew, no alcohol or smoking. ( They didn't mention drugs as they haven't found there way here, at least as far as I know). The room is great, and I am very comfortable which is great. After unpacking, I found a restaurant, and ate French food. Of course this is the French colonial part of India. French is spoken widely here. Food provided is good, but shockingly cheap!! The meal was good, and that was the turbulent arrival.
