March 16 Garden Route: George

Up early to catch the Baz Bus from Lungile Lodge for back packers. I slept in a dorm of about 8 or 12 men. All young people, many Germans backpacking it around South Africa. Quite an experience. We had a good trip down the Garden Route. We stopped at Oude Bosch for breakfast, and I had a delicious piece of boerewors ( farmer's sausage) for breakfast with eggs and bacon. Back on the road, I took pics of the Bloukrans ravine, which is the highest bungy jumping bridge in the world. Many backpackers stayed just to do that. Stunning drop down the ravine. We didn't even stop, so my pics were shot through the window. The vegetation was fynbos which are brown, orange and even purple low bushes, sometimes packed very close together. We stopped and picked up backpackers at amazing places along the way. It is an excellent place to go on the Baz Bus, hop on and off, stay a few days etc, but not 5 star accommodation of course, and very cheap for anyone. Eventually I was dropped off at George at 2:20 PM, and my cousin Barbs was waiting for me. I haven't seen her for at least 40 years!! We had a great time visiting. Then we took the dogs for a walk with her friend, Sue, followed by a lovely braai ( BBQ) in her retirement community complex. Everyone brought  their own food/drinks, and I met some interesting people. Many Afrikaans folk, and a lot was spoken, but I understand, and still speak a little. I haven't cooked meat over a braai for such a long time. South Africans are huge meat eaters. Afterwards Barbs and I came home, chatted more, and I am now just finishing off the blog before bedtime. Thanks for checking in, and have a great rest of week.
